ABOUT

Why we do this: To help transform American healthcare by aligning resources with staff and patient needs, slashing waste, and improving safety -- and we also serve our broader community with the same commitment to tangible value and satisfaction.

How we work: We apply Lean process optimization methods to improve operational efficiency, patient experience, and outcomes - designing facilities with understanding of their strategic intent, community context, and business purpose.  We use highly collaborative Lean planning and project delivery methodologies  that stimulate new behaviors, continuous learning, and cultural transformation.

How you benefit: Your projects get the highest level of professional expertise without excessive overhead.  We assemble collaborative teams of tested professionals, specifically chosen to suit each project, and then maintain direct personal control.  This eliminates waste and confusion, leading to predictable results: projects that are on time, on budget, and functionally on target.

Serves the full range of medical facilities from Academic Medical Centers to Rural and Critical Acccess Hospitals, Medical Offices, Ambulatory Care, and Behavioral Health

Architect: Licensed as an architect in California, Oregon, and Washington, John offers unsurpassed depth of experience with OSHPD regulations.  In 1978 he led construction of California's first seismically compliant  hospital under the original Alquist Seismic Safety Act (and installed the world's first clinical MRI) at the Joseph M. Long Hospital - part of UC San Francisco Medical Center.

Specializing in project turnarounds, and integrated collaborative teams, he uses competitive biddesign-build, and BIM-supported IPD Big Room methodologies to deliver technically challenging facilities.  John has worked both in his own firm and with California's other leading design firms, to complete millions of square feet of hospital and ambulatory facilities statewide.

Healthcare Planner and Facility Developer:  John led his own vertically integrated medical facility development firm for 15 years.   Seamlessly implementing recommendations from his consulting team of former hospital executives, his design organization used capital projects to stimulate and reinforce strategic organizational change in hospitals and medical group practices.

Pioneering Lawsuit Mediator: Working with idealistic attorneys, innovative  insurance carriers, and AIA General Counsel, he helped create the modern process of lawsuit mediation and establish it nationwide, with voluntary resolution of thousands of cases.
